Dear parishioners and friends,
These weekly emails have been a very useful way of keeping in regular contact, not only with people here in Cork, but also with parishioners currently living abroad. In recent weeks, I have been in regular contact with one family, now in the US, whose newborn son has required heart surgery.
Just this past week I have been in communication with another family who had a lucky escape from serious injury or worse. Many of you may remember that in the recorded service I sent out for Pentecost last May, I included a reference to Colm and Maxine Reid in my sermon, as well as pictures they had sent me of their church in Beirut. Unfortunately, their apartment was near the site of the massive explosion there this week and was very seriously damaged in the blast. However it is good to report that none of the family were at home at the time and so all are safe and well. We will be remembering them, as well as all those injured, killed or bereaved in this horrific explosion at our services tomorrow.
Prayer is the one thing that connects us all, no matter how far we are away. With this in mind I include a short message from the Revd Hazel Minion about the parish prayer chain for your information.
Did you know? During the past 5 months, one parish activity continued without any change – the Parish Chain of Prayer. Members have maintained daily prayer for all who requested it. But prayer requests have slowed down – do people realise we are still there for you? If you need the support of our prayers, please e-mail hminion22@hotmail.com
Please find the attached service sheet and readings for use tomorrow. Also the link to the recorded ‘Thought in three minutes’. It will be available on our parish YouTube channel from 9am tomorrow. Our readings this Sunday give us examples of two people, Elijah and Peter, who felt God’s presence with them at times of challenge or crisis in their lives. While I recorded it earlier in the week, it has relevance given all the significant developments at home and abroad reported in the media in more recent days.
